Introduction to F&I

Are you interested in pursuing a career in the Finance and Insurance industry but you are not sure what the job of an F&I entails? The Introduction to F&I workshop or online training programme provides an overview of the position.

National Credit Act

Employees or agents in the motor vehicle industry, who deal with specific matters provided for in the National Credit Act, are required to be compliant with the National Credit Act (NCA). The Institute of Bankers Forum (IOB) has introduced an exam which all employees and agents in the motor industry must successfully complete. Once completed, they will be issued with an NCA Identification card, and may then solicit and conclude deals on behalf of the credit provider.

Class Of Business

Class of business training is the generic training in respect of the various classes of business. It is governed by section 29 of the Board Notice 194 of 2017(the Act) and becomes operational on 1 August 2018. Representatives appointed on or after this date, must complete the class of business training prior to the rendering of financial services in those classes of business.

As an Inseta accredited training provider, FAIS Forward Consult offers Class of Business Training in the following classes of business:

• Short-term Insurance: Personal Lines

• Short-term Insurance: Commercial Lines

• Long-term Insurance

Regulatory Examination Training

Representatives and Key Individuals who must write the level one regulatory examination can benefit from this training. We have face-to-face workshops as well as online training courses available for RE1 (Regulatory examination for Key Individuals) and RE5 (Regulatory training for Representatives). We work directly from the source documents namely the FAIS Act, the General Code of Conduct, Board Notice 194 of 2017 and other legislation to ensure thorough preparation for the examination and a lot of practical exercises and preparation material are included in the workshop. We also demonstrate proven study methods and techniques.

Insurance Qualification

The *FETC Retail Insurance Qualification (SAQA ID 49835) is one of the approved qualifications on the Financial Services Board (FSB) list for Category 1 Financial Services Providers (FSP’s). This qualification is aimed at employees and agents who provide financial services to clients but do not necessarily work in the insurance industry. It is therefore one of the preferred qualifications for Finance and Insurance agents (F&I’s) in the motor vehicle industry who must comply with the FAIS Fit and Proper requirements. Our training methodology consists of a combination of face-to-face learning and learner self-study. Learning will be mainly through self-study, but learners will have the opportunity to attend contact sessions throughout the year.

The Qualification consists of a Fundamental, a Core and an Elective Component. To fulfil these requirements, the programme is divided into four clusters of approximately 30 credits each:

 FAIS 1

 FAIS 2

 FAIS 3 (Includes Financial Literacy – the compulsory fundamental unit standards)

 Fundamentals (for those learners who did not pass English, Maths and a second language on Grade 12 or equivalent level)

*FAIS Forward Consult is accredited with INSETA (INSETA Accreditation Number 130249) to provide the FETC Retail Insurance Qualification.

These courses form part of the FETC Retail qualification, SAQA ID 66609. The assessment fee (portfolio and exam) is included in the price of all the training.

CPD Points

Representatives and key individuals must maintain the required competence to render financial services in the product categories in which the representative operates. The minimum CPD hours are set out in section 33(1) of the Board Notice 194 of 2017. CPD requirements became effective on 1 June 2018.

The number of hours to be completed by representatives and key individuals depend on the number of subcategories and product classes the representative and key individual provide financial services in.

FAIS Forward Consult is registered with the Institute of Bankers (IOB) to offer CPD Workshops.
